Weekly Tidbits #19

source source Whew! It's been a while since I've been able to post anything. I'll be sharing tomorrow the project that has been taking up most of my time, but for now, here's a little bit of what I've been up to lately!
Watching: Son of Batman- My husband and I have been wanting to watch this for a while and finally picked it up at Redbox. It was an okay movie. The dialogue was pretty funny at times but I didn't like the style of animation. I'm glad we watched it, but I probably won't see it again. Another thing is, I hated Talia al Ghul's outfits! Seriously, why? No one dresses like that. 
Working on: my cat scarf. I've made so much progress lately. I work on it while in my anthropology class because it is the most boring class ever... Seriously, it's the worst. I'm a pretty slow crocheter but, now that I am working on the body of the scarf it goes by really quickly. I've been going through all of the free patterns on Ravelry looking for my next project already. I really love those big bow ear warmers and they look fairly easy. 

Making: a list of recipes to try for Thanksgiving. I love cooking all year round but now that it's getting cold, I'm craving warm soups and roasted veggies. We are actually having three Thanksgiving meals this year, one with my husband's family, one with mine, and then on another day we are having dinner with our friends. That's a lot of food, but I don't mind :) My usual dish is a veggie stuffing but this year I'll probably end up making a few different things. What's your favorite holiday recipe?
Reading: I'm still reading The Maze Runner. Did anyone feel like it was really similar to The Hunger Games? I'm only halfway through so I guess I'll have to wait and see. Any recommendations for my next read?
Loving: putting up all of our Christmas decorations! On Nov. 1 I broke out the box of ornaments and our table top tree. I couldn't wait! Halloween is my favorite holiday by far but Christmas is a close second. After getting out our decorations I realized that we really don't have much, mostly just ornaments and our stockings. I think after putting up some lights it will really feel like Christmastime.
Excited About: The Arbitrary Scarf Exchange! I have a milk crate full of scarves, but one more can't hurt, right? And plus, now that I'm wearing a scarf every day, it's nice to have some variety. I love snail mail and am so excited to be a part of this swap. I can't wait to find out who my partner is. Weekly Tidbits #18

Hi there! I hope you all had a fun and relaxing weekend. Here's a little of what I've been up to this week. Watching: The Walking Dead Oh my goodness. I am so excited for this season. Since we don't have cable, we weren't planning on watching it until it came on Netflix, but our neighbors invited us to watch it with them. It was a lot of fun, and we made plans to watch it with them on Sundays and take turns bringing dinner. Some shows are just more fun to watch in groups. When Carol and Darryl were reunited, I was so happy! Did any of you tune in for the premier?
Working on: plans for a huge shop update in November. I have to be honest, I am a little disappointed in my progress with my etsy shop. I have so many ideas and just not enough time in the day to create. Between working full time, having more than a full load at school, and homework on top of that, I don't have a whole lot of free time. I'm planning on taking some time each week to just relax with some crafts and try and get some items stockpiled to list next month. (Hopefully announcing it here will make me stick to a deadline!) Do any of you feel like you don't have enough time to do all of the things you want to accomplish?

Making: the first hot cocoa of the season! As much as I love tea, I drink it year round, so it doesn't have a whole lot of seasonal significance. Hot cocoa, however, I really only drink in the winter months. I just had some of the premade cocoa mix laying around, but I would love to come up with a few different recipes. Candy cane would be delicious!
Reading: Maze Runner I have heard a lot of good things about this series and am really excited to get into it. I haven't seen the film yet, and will probably wait until it's out of theaters, but the series has a really interesting concept. If you haven't heard about it, you can read more here.
Loving: Just walking around downtown. My husband and I moved to our town in March and still have a lot of places we've yet to see. This Sunday we went to lunch and afterwards, just walked around and explored all of the little shops. We stopped at a tea bar, and I got the most delicious pumpkin chai latte. There was another blend called "Witch's Brew" but they were out of stock at the time. I'll definitely be back to try it.  They brew everything by hand and heat the water to the precise temperature needed. Surprisingly, the tea was not expensive at all. I'd say that Starbucks is probably a little more pricey. And of course, we couldn't resist a stop at the candy shop. My treats of choice were the peanut butter cup and carrot cake truffle. Amazing!
Excited About: the semester ending. Whew, my first semester has been a doozy. I'm picking my classes for the next semester this week and it will be such a relief when I do. I chose my classes before I started my job and my current schedule is not the best for me. I've been able to make both work but it will be nice to plan my classes at more convenient times. 
Little Tidbits:

Weekly Tidbits #17

source source source Watching: Hemlock Grove I kept hearing about this show and finally decided to give it a try. I'm still a little unsure on how I feel about the show. I think it may be one that I like but don't necessarily love. I've been keeping it on in the background while doing homework and sewing so I am a little confused as to what's going on. The transformation scene was wicked cool though and way more gory than something you would normally see on television.
Working on: my Halloween costume! I made some progress this week and so far have cut out all the pieces and just have to sew everything together. I'm also making another dress with the same pattern in a different fabric. I figured it's probably easier to just cut out all the pieces at once and then I can sew everything at the same time. Are any of you dressing up for Halloween?

Making: Chantal over at Pony Chops has created the cutest cross stitch pattern of a pinata. The best part is, she's made it available for free! I think cross stitching, like a lot of crafts, has an association with the older generation, but you can really make some cute, modern designs. I haven't tried cross stitching since I was a kid, but now I'm dreaming up all kinds of cross stitched goodies to make. 
Reading: Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. He is the author of Fight Club (one of my favorite books/ movies) and I've read several of his other novels. I really like his books because they are different from anything else I read. He has a very distinct writing style though, and I can't read more than one of his books in a row. I have to break it up with something a little more lighthearted. 
Loving: the cooler weather. We had a pretty big storm right before the Autumn equinox and ever since it's been officially fall, the temperature has dropped like crazy. The low for the past couple nights has been in the 30's and I've had to bundle up at work to stay warm. At least I can wear tights now!
Excited About: The Boxtrolls I think I've mentioned before how excited I am to see this movie, but it's finally out in theaters! Between work, school, and my husband being under the weather, we haven't had a chance to watch it yet. Hopefully this weekend we will be able to. I've been looking forward to it since seeing the first "making of" trailer. I'm sure it will be amazing!

Weekly Tidbits #16

source Watching: Stand by Me I've been trying to get my husband to watch this movie for ages and he finally broke down (he ended up liking it). It's such a good movie and surprisingly, it is based on a story by Stephen King. It's not a scary or gory movie by any means, and is really about childhood friendships. It reminds me a lot of The Goonies. There are a lot of famous actors in this movie as well, including Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, and a bleach blonde Kiefer Sutherland. 
Working on: creating lesson plans for my student teaching. I actually have a double major, one of which is secondary education in physics. This is my first education class so we are teaching a younger group and it's not necessarily within your major's topic. I'll be teaching 6th graders about area and perimeter next week. 

Making: slow progress on my cat scarf. So far I've only finished her head and I think I may have added a couple stitches somewhere along the lines. It's nice to have something to do in my anthropology class though. Seriously, the most boring class I've been in. It's a huge lecture with 200+ people so I can hide in the back with my crocheting. 
Reading: I finished Landline in less than 24 hours. I really loved it, as I do all of Rainbow Rowell's books. I don't even know if I can pick a favorite. In all of her books, I've been able to relate to the characters in some way. Now that I'm married, I found there were things I could relate to with Georgie, that I probably wouldn't have been able to before. 
Loving: pumpkin donuts, pumpkin chai-cheesecake milkshakes (I promise it's delicious), pumpkin english muffins, pumpkin everything! I love fall because the grocery stores st. art carrying all of the delicious pumpkin treats. As the weather cools, I really get in a baking mood and I have all sorts of pumpkin goodies planned. Pumpkin Cinnamon bread anyone?
Excited About: my parents getting a new puppy! They will be getting a bulldog puppy from a friend soon, and I can't wait to see it. I love animals and while I would love to have a dog of my own, it's really not feasible. Between work and school, I'm not home nearly enough to take care of a dog and my cats would probably be very upset if I allowed a newcomer into the household. Maybe someday, but for now, I'll live vicariously through everyone else.

Weekly Tidbit #15

This is a not-so-weekly tidbit since I missed last week's. It's been very, very busy around here with school and work, but, here's a little of what's going on with me!

source source  source Watching: Arrested Development I've seen a  few episodes of this show here and there but never really watched them in order. My husband and I just started watching it on Netflix, and it's hilarious. Buster is definitely my favorite character. 
Working on: determining the topic of my research paper for my invertebrate paleontology class. I think I am going to write it on mass extinction.I'm trying to tie in astronomy so I am going to be focusing on large impacts, most likely the Chicxulub impact (the one that killed off the dinosaurs). It has to be 10 pages long, so I'm trying to make it interesting to me.

Making: my house a little more functional. We recently rearranged our living room/ dining area and it is SO much better. Living in a small space, it's easy to get stuck thinking there's only one way the furniture will fit. We stuck our dining table long ways along the wall, so now I have a sewing area and desk for homework. It's crazy how refreshing it is to have a new space. 
Reading: I finally finished Hyde. I actually really enjoyed it, it just took me a while since I've just been reading quite a bit less for pleasure now that school has started. With all of the reading for my classes, I don't have a lot of spare time to read comics and books. I usually bring a book with me to school to read in between classes, but, if there's homework , I try and finish that first. Next I'll be starting Landline by Rainbow Rowell. Although, I think I'm going to start a paperback as well since it'll be lighter in my backpack. 
Loving: Spooky Symphonies It's a Pandora station with instrumentals, mostly from movie scores (which I love). I've been listening to it while working on homework and it's great. It's a lot of Danny Elfman and Harry Potter music (the best kind of music). I like to have background noise at all times but t.v. can be distracting when I should be focusing on school work. Do you listen to music while you work? Any suggestions?
Excited About: If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I've decided on a Halloween costume. I've been wanting to do it for a couple years, but this year I'll finally be Ms. Frizzle! I went to Joann's this weekend and got the fabric since I had a coupon. I was initially going to get a different fabric and they ended up being out of stock. I'm actually really happy I got this one instead. Have any of you decided on a costume yet?

Weekly Tidbits #14

source This past week has been very, very busy. Last weekend, I celebrated my birthday in Phoenix with family and some friends. It was a lot of fun, and, I'm glad I was able to see my family since it's been a couple months since I saw them last. My friend's threw me a zombie themed party with plenty of treats and movies. Aren't these zombie cookies the best?! I got to keep the cookie cutters as part of my gift, which means plenty of zombie cookies in the future. 

This week was also the start of school. On the first day, as I was getting ready to leave, I realized that someone had cut my bike lock. Luckily, they didn't take my bike, but, it still was a major bummer. I've been walking all across campus and my feet are definitely sore at the end of the day. I'm actually still not able to ride my bike because all of the stores are sold out of bike locks. Literally, all of the stores. It's crazy. Anyways, here are a few things that I've been doing this week:
Watching: lots and lots of Scrubs. This and The Office are shows we put on when we're getting ready for bed. I've already seen most of the episodes and it's still hilarious. I love that the humor is just ridiculous and kind of slapstick, but, not too cheesy. My favorite character is definitely the Janitor.
Working on: a new pin for the shop! I just listed this little guy this morning. Fall always makes me think of woodland creatures so I am going to make a series of these little guys. So far, I've just listed the raccoon, but I think I'm going to make a fox, owl, and maybe a rabbit.

Making: Thai iced tea. I had never tried it before but I got some for my birthday and it's pretty delicious. I absolutely love tea and usually have about 5 or 6 different kinds in my cupboard. So far, I've just tried it with a bit of sugar and almond milk, but I think I'm going to try it with lime next time. What is your favorite kind of tea?
Reading: The new 52 Swamp Thing vol. 1. I've never read any of the Swamp Thing comics, and I didn't even know that it was a DC property, but, we found the first volume at a used bookstore. I haven't read it yet; I just kind of flipped through and looked at the art. I love all of the Universal monsters though, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. 
Loving: my women's and gender studies class. I really like my professor; he makes weird analogies and references that I don't think everyone catches. Also, my midterm paper is an analysis of the first volume of Wonder Woman! I don't know that I've ever looked forward to a midterm before, but, this one is going to be a lot of fun. 
Excited About: planning a Halloween party! I'm not very social and don't generally like being around groups of people, but, I love themed parties. Or, I guess the idea of them, since I've never really been to one. This year I've decided to have a couple of our friends over for a Halloween celebration. I've started pinning ideas and can't wait to start making decorations. To start, I've set up some of my Spookytown pieces; it's never too early!

Weekly Tidbits #13

source source source Watching: Criminal Minds on Netflix! I'm so happy that they added this show. I actually own the first 8 seasons, but, Netflix has the most recent season, which I haven't seen yet. I know a lot of people don't like crime shows because a lot of them are pretty similar, but, I think Criminal Minds is one of the best. They're behavioral analysts and focus on chasing serial killers. I just love all of the characters; especially Dr. Spencer Reid and Penelope Garcia.
Working on: getting organized for school. I finally found a planner. It's not exactly how I would like it laid out, but, it will do for now. I have six classes so I'm just hoping I don't run out of room.

Making: a crocheted cat scarf! My mom is a pro at crocheting so usually she will make me stuff, but, I figured it would be a good time to start trying to learn it again. I haven't tried since high school and my last project did not turn out well. I attempted to make a friend gloves for Christmas and they turned out weirdly huge. Hopefully a scarf is a little easier to start out with. Do any of you crochet?
Reading: The first 10 issues of Futures End. I like this run a lot so far, it's not my absolute favorite, but, I would definitely recommend it. I love that Frankenstein is a character as well as Batman Beyond. I grew up watching the animated series, so he's always been a favorite character.
Loving: Disney Tsum Tsum! I kept seeing pictures of these little guys posted on Instagram and I had to check them out. They're adorable! I want them all! If you haven't heard of it, there's an app in Japan that has become hugely popular. They've now released it in the U.S. along with the character plush toys. I'm a sucker for anything cute and Disney.
Excited About: The first day of school! This is my first year at university so I'm very excited and a little nervous. The campus is huge compared to my community college. Hopefully I won't get lost or end up in the wrong class! Are any of you excited to start school?

Weekly Tidbits #12

I don't have a regular Weekly Tidbits post today; instead I just have a little summary of what's been going on the past few days. This week was pretty hectic and busy, with sinus infections, work, and not much else. It really flew by! We did get to go on a nice little day trip to Sedona today though. It was so nice to get away for the day and just have some fun after this busy week. Before I share some pictures from the trip though, I have to tell you all about Friday night.  One of my friends from work adopted a kitten from the humane society. Normally, most places will give you one of the cardboard carriers to transport your new pet home, but, they basically just gave her the cat and said "See ya later." As she was driving home, the kitten crawled up inside of her dashboard! I didn't even know there was an opening down there. It took us hours to get the poor thing out of there. We didn't want to remove the dash since the airbag is in there as well. We finally got her to come down far enough to grab her by rubbing tuna on my hands and playing videos of cats meowing. It was crazy stressful, but, luckily the cat wasn't scared at all. She was actually purring and playing the entire time. Anyways, here is some pictures of beautiful Sedona (and Ali, my in-law's pup)!

Weekly Tidbits #11

source source Watching: Alien and Aliens. I borrowed these from a friend and am so excited to watch them this weekend. I haven't watched these films in ages, probably since I was in elementary school. 
Working on: creating a budget. I am really good with money on my own but when you're married and all of your finances are together, it's really hard to keep track of everything. Mint.com is super helpful though. You can link all of your accounts, even student loans. It will also show you how much you're spending in each category. It's kind of scary but it helps put everything into perspective. 

Making: a fun new item for the shop to celebrate Shark Week! I'll be posting about it soon, so keep an eye out.
Reading: Volumes 6 & 7 of The Walking Dead comics. I'm also still reading Hyde, which I'm really enjoying so far. I actually don't think that I've read the original, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; it's included in the version of Hyde that I have though, so I may read it afterwards. Unfortunately, it's been tough to find time to read. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue once school starts. 
Loving: milkshakes! We found this diner near our house that has over 100 milkshake flavors. There were so many choices, it was crazy. I've been in a fall sort of mood lately so I got a pumpkin chai; and, oh my goodness. It was amazing. Now I want to try and make it at home.
Excited About: creating a Halloween costume. I always think of awesome costume ideas throughout the year and end up doing something last minute the day of Halloween. This year I want to actually plan ahead and have a fun costume. So far I'm thinking my husband and I might do Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. My default is always a witch though; you can't go wrong with a classic.

Weekly Tidbits #10

source source source Watching: Guardians of the Galaxy It was so amazing! I absolutely loved it. Rocket and Groot were my favorite characters and tiny Groot dancing in the end was the cutest thing I've ever seen. While I appreciate the darker comic book movies, I really liked that this was funny and didn't take itself too seriously. I would highly recommend this movie, even if you aren't really into superhero movies. 
Working on: setting up my new Etsy shop! I'm not very computer savvy so creating things like the banner takes me forever. Thank goodness for Pinterest. I've been looking up so many tutorials to figure out how to do all of the design stuff. 

Making: hair bows for the shop, as well as business cards. I have a gift card for Zazzle so I'm finally putting it to good use. I've ordered printed items from them before and they turned out well so hopefully the cards turn out like I'm picturing. It's so hard to tell colors over a computer screen.
Reading: I finally finished Zombie and... I did not like it. The book just didn't make sense to me and I was not a fan of the writing style. I really tried and I'm glad I finished it though. The next book I'm starting is Hyde, a retelling of Dr. Jekkyl and I'm super stoked about it. Hopefully this one turns out better than the last couple books I've read.
Loving: planning for the upcoming school year. Most people don't enjoy going to school, but, I really love it. If I could be paid to go to school for the rest of my life, I would totally do it. I've been trying to find a planner I like but I haven't had any luck so far. Do any of you use a planner you love?

Excited About: planning Disneyland trips! Disneyland is by far my favorite place in the world. My husband and I are getting annual passes in November so we are trying to plan out all of our trips for the next year. The first trip we are going on will be for our anniversary and it will be Christmastime in the parks. There is seriously nothing more magical than Main Street at Christmas.

Weekly Tidbits #9

source source Watching: American Horror Story: Asylum I mentioned before that I absolutely love horror but I think that this show is a good balance of horror and drama. I didn't think it was too gory, although my view could be a little skewed. I liked the first season but this one was even better. I can't wait for season 3 to be on Netflix. Witches!!

Working on: not a whole lot this week. I took my final today and am so glad to be done with my summer class. It's nice to have that stress gone. I have a whole month before school starts again so I have lots of plans for sewing projects. 

Making: plans to learn cake decorating! My mother-in-law is a baker and teaches cake decorating classes. She is going to teach me how to decorate all kinds of desserts and I can't wait. I really want to make a jack-o-lantern cake for Halloween, and Christmas cookies!
Reading: I'm still reading Zombie and it's taking me forever to get through it. I think I'm just not a fan of the writing style. I'm determined to finish it though! I've also been reading the graphic novel Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. It's set in Victorian times and Jack the Ripper has arrived in Gotham. Once the murders start, the Batman is under suspicion. Is he the killer?!? of course not.
Loving: Barnes & Noble is having a sale on DC graphic novels. Buy 2 get one free! It's a great deal. There was this poor kid at the checkout who was so upset that the most expensive book isn't the free one. There are other special days going on as well; Marvel Day is August 2, and Page to Screen weekend is August 9-10.

Excited About: I just found out there will be a new Rob Zombie film called 31. I know his movies are pretty "love it" or hate it" but I definitely love them. I'm super excited because I read an interview after Lords of Salem where he said he was done making horror movies. There's a teaser trailer on Metal Injection you can watch here.

Weekly Tidbits #8

Watching: James and the Giant Peach I haven't seen this movie since I was really young but it's now available on Netflix. I forgot how great it was! I think Roal Dahl's stories translate really well into claymation. I may be a bit biased though, because I can't think of a claymation film I don't like.

Working on: trying to fix my sewing machines tension. Right as I was finishing up my tote bag, it just completely crapped out on me. I tried watching a YouTube video but it didn't help much. I think I'll just have to break out the manual and fiddle see if I can figure it out. If any of you know some tips, let me know!

Making: sugar cookies. I have been seeing so many cute cookie decorating ideas on Pinterest and I really want to start trying some out. For some reason, cookie decorating seems less intimidating than cake decorating. I have some pirate themed cookie cutters so I am going to make some for a friend's birthday next week. The best part is, I get to eat my mistakes!

Reading: The Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roal Dahl. I love Roal Dahl's stories, and they've unintentionally turned into a theme this week. They are always crazy and weird and the illustrations go with his style so well. I had actually never read The Fantastic Mr. Fox as a kid; I first heard of the book from the Wes Anderson film. It was cute and I think they did a great job with the movie adaptation.

Loving: peppermint essential oil. Lately at work I've been getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. I don't know what it is, but they love my blood. I just put a drop of peppermint on each of my bites and it really helps with the itchiness.

Excited About: Going to the farmer's market this weekend. Our town has a farmer's market on Sunday mornings and it's recently started up for the summer. I love trying all of the samples of food. It's my favorite part!

Watching: The Walking Dead I watched the first three seasons on Netflix and I just finished watching the fourth season this week. I watched it in just two days it was so good! (That's 16 hours of zombies) It's my favorite season yet. I can't wait to find out what will happen at Terminus. Something bad, of course; but, I'm definitely betting on cannibals.

Working on: Math, math, and more math. My final for my summer class is in two weeks and I need to study big time. I've been staring at these problems for so long, my brain is going to turn to jell-o soon. I am excited to finish this class though, so I can have a month break before school starts again.

Making: some birthday gifts for a friend! I love giving gifts, especially if I know the person well. Knowing you've gotten a gift someone is going to love is the best feeling. It's even better if I can make something. I'll probably post a DIY later this week of the knitting bag I'm making for her.

Reading: The Walking Dead vol. 3-5 One of my friends came to visit over the holiday last week and was nice enough to lend me a few more volumes of The Walking Dead. I've been on a huge kick this week since watching the fourth season and I found this awesome print too! I actually saw the picture months ago but finally tracked down the artist and found out where you can buy it. You can get it as a shirt too so I'm trying to decide between that or a print. 

Loving: Planners! I thought I was the only one obsessed with lists and organizing until I found bloggers that feature their planners. I normally just make my own calendars and use them to organize all of my school information, but seeing all of these creative planners makes me want to get one. Excited About: The new horror movie Pop! figures. I'm a huge horror nut and I love how these look. They're seriously adorable! I think my favorites are Captain Spaulding and Pennywise.

Watching: Cosmos I haven't started watching it just yet but we bought it this weekend at Target for 30% off. It was a pretty sweet deal. I'm a big fan of Neil Degrasse Tyson and the original Cosmos so I'm looking forward to watching it. Have any of you seen it yet?

Working On: Doing a late spring cleaning. We had house guests for the holiday weekend and that always prompts me to clean up around the house, or at least shove the mess into the bedroom... I donated a giant box of stuff to Goodwill too. It always feels good to get rid of some of that extra junk that somehow accumulates. 

Reading: lots of new comics! The comic book store had a sale for the fourth of July so we got quite a few things. I think my favorite is the new Rocket Raccoon. I really like the illustration style and the humor is great. Also, Super Secret Crisis started this month! I love Cartoon Network so I'm really stoked about this crossover. Also, I'm always looking for more comic book recommendations!

Making: Flag cake for fourth of July. My mom used to make this when I was younger so I decided to try it out this year. I put in a pan that was slightly too small so it kind of exploded. It turned out pretty tasty and it disappeared pretty quickly, though. Too bad I forgot to take a picture until half of it was gone!

Loving: Jasmine Thompson This girl is seriously talented and only 13 years old. Her voice is haunting and beautiful but poppy at the same time. I love it. I first heard her when she popped up on my Pandora. She has a YouTube channel and you can view her videos here.

Excited About: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Every time I watch this trailer I get so pumped. My husband and I keep yelling, "I need to speak to Ceasar!!" I really liked the first one in the reboot but I think this film will be even better. Andy Serkis does an amazing job with the motion capture and I'm excited to see him have more screen time.

Weekly Tidbits #5

Pacific Rim print

Watching: I, Frankenstein When I first saw the previews for this movie, I got super excited, because, hello, it's Frankenstein and gargoyles. I never got around to seeing it in the theaters though, so we got it from Redbox this week. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. I would say on the cheesiness factor it's a little better than SyFy channel movie. Don't get me wrong, super cheesy movies are amazing in their own right, but I was hoping for a little more with this one. 

Working On: finishing my thank you cards from my wedding... which took place six months ago. I feel so bad that it's taken me this long.  It's crazy because I love mail and cute stationery but for some reason, this task is just the worst. I'm going to impose a quota of 5 a day until I'm finished. Hopefully that will get them finished quickly!

Reading: Zombie by J.R. Angelella This novel, despite its name, is not actually about zombies. However, the main character, a boy named Jeremy is obsessed with zombie movies. He finds a home video in his father's closet of someone being prepped for surgery, strapped to a bed, and the story follows him as he struggles with what he finds and the meaning of it. This book has quite a few bad reviews on Goodreads but I'll be holding my judgement until I finish it.

Making: prints for my wall. I have so much empty wall space so I made a few literary inspired prints for over over my bookshelves. I'll be sharing a little DIY on how I made them later on. 

Loving: summer weather! I normally hate summer because in Phoenix it's like living inside a volcano, and I'm just miserable. Now that I'm not living in a hellscape, I understand why people look forward to summer and being able to be outside during the day! I'm hoping to go to the lake and have a picnic with some friends that are visiting for the fourth. 

Excited About: Pacific Rim 2!!I absolutely loved the first one and Guillermo del Toro just announced that the second film will be released on April 7, 2017. You can watch the video announcing it here. They are also making an animated series which I am super stoked about. AND I found out that there is a comic, which is now on my list to buy.

Weekly Tidbit #4

Watching: Orange is the New Black. I kept hearing about this show and seeing tons of gifs on Tumblr since the second season came out, so we decided to give it a try. This show is so addicting, I blazed through both seasons in about a week. I'm not too fond of Piper, but I love the supporting characters.

Working On: my sleep schedule. I've been working late at night since it has to be dark to use the telescopes and it's making me so tired. I'm constantly yawning and it's driving me nuts. I hate sleeping late but I rested a ton this weekend so hopefully that helps.

Reading: Walking Dead volumes 1 & 2. I read the first few volumes of the comics in high school and just recently watched the first three seasons of the show. I figured now is a good time to revisit the comics. I also read The Killing Joke and loved it!

Making: Green chile chicken quesadillas. I've never had fresh roasted green chiles before but there were some roasted ones at the grocery store. I'm never buying canned again; they're amazing!

Loving: the new Lego line of female scientists! To be honest, I never thought of Lego minifigures to be male or female (unless they had a beard or something), but I am super excited about this set and I'll definitely be purchasing it when it comes out in August. Excited About: HALLOWEEN!! I stopped by Joann's earlier this week and was so excited to see the start of Halloween decorations. Halloween is my favorite holiday ever and I can't wait to decorate our apartment this year.

Watching: The Fault in Our Stars. This may be an unpopular opinion, but, I was not a fan of the movie. I just wasn't impressed with the main actors. I did like how they showed the texting on the screen instead of having the characters read their texts out loud for the audience (which is unnatural). I may be biased though since I thought the book was just okay. I've read a few of John Green's books and while I think they're alright, I think that a big draw for his fandom is that he is so accessible to his fans (not a bad thing). 

Working On: getting frames for all of my art. I have so many prints that are just sitting in a crate waiting to be put up on the walls. 

Reading: I'm still reading The Winter Palace, as well as The Explorers on Mars Hill for work. It's a history of all the achievements that occurred at Lowell Observatory in its first 100 years. I'm only about halfway through but it really is interesting. Fun fact: Lowell used to keep a cow named Venus on the property!

Making: some progress on my pile of clothes to mend. I have a bunch of dresses just sitting unworn that need minor repairs, like bows falling off and broken straps. 

Loving: working! I've been unemployed for a couple months and it totally sucked. I really enjoy working and I feel like a bum if I just stay home. It's nice to feel productive again.

Excited About: Jason Momoa as Aquaman! This is still speculation but I think it will end up being true. This is the same actor who played Kahl Drogo on Game of Thrones. My first choice would have been Charlie Hunnam from Pacific Rim (he seriously looks just like Aquaman) but I think Jason Momoa will do a great  job. I'm just hoping they make him blonde...
